İSAM Library Software Renewal Project

The İSAM Library had been using an automation software developed in-house for many years. However, this software no longer meets today's security requirements, software technology needs, and library/archival standards, prompting the initiation of a transformation project. Three phases of the project have been completed, and the fourth phase is currently underway.

Phase One:
High-capacity servers required by the library were implemented as part of İSAM's hardware infrastructure renewal efforts.

Phase Two:
Approximately 600,000 books, journals, and journal issues were migrated to the newly acquired Yordam library automation system.

Phase Three:
Thirteen of the library’s fifteen archival collections were transferred to the open-source AtoM (Access to Memory) system in compliance with ISAD-G standards. AtoM is widely used by prestigious institutions like the United Nations and the Canadian Archives. The remaining two collections will also be transferred to this system shortly.

Phase Four:
The current phase involves migrating article databases to the open-source Dspace program, which adheres to Dublin Core standards and is used by approximately 1,500 institutions, including Harvard and MIT. The system has been installed, testing has been conducted, and data conversion is in progress. Once completed, the article databases will be made available to researchers via Dspace.
